Even today. if an accomplished player is not currently playing a Bach 42, odds are overwhelming that he or she has played one at one time or at least given serious consideration. I think this particular trombone has the options in a Bach 42 that I would choose. The gold brass bell has more soft copper in it than a normal 42, giving a warmer more colorful tone quality. The lightweight nickle slide makes the horn more agile or nimble getting around the partials. If I was to order a Bach 42 today these are the bell and slide that I would want.I bought this from a young man that inherited it from a family member. The trombone had been unused for a while. It was in overall good condition. I had a few small dents professionally removed and a fresh coat of lacquer put on the bell after stripping and cleaning. Bach's lacquer has never been a strong suit. This new coat will last much longer than the old one did. I did have the slide tuned up. It is now fast free and smooth. Valve was cleaned and lubed to work the way it was designed.What you get is kind of a cross between a traditional Bach 42 with a yellow bell and a Conn 88H. More projection than the Conn and more tone color and warmth than the normal 42. It will pop pedals yet play easily into the highest registers. It can play the softest pianissimos or knock down a wall when you pour the air to it.Comes with a Giardinelli leather trimmed cordura gig bag and a Bach 6 1/2 AL mouthpiece both in good shape.This combination now sells for more than $2900 even on the online discount sites - It should be a great chance to get a top of the line professional trombone in superb condition for a good value.I will ship well packed to the lower 48 states for $60 and elsewhere for actual cost by US Postal service.
