The Godin A4 Ultra Fretless Bass is what every bass player has been waiting for. Sporting a lace sensor pickup, saddle transducers and a 13-pin synth input, the sonic possibilities are virtually endless. Plus a fretless ebony fingerboard? No matter what kind of group you're in, the A4 Ultra will make you the king of the rhythm section. This Godin A4 Ultra Bass features:Rock Maple neckEbony fretless fingerboard16" fingerboard radius34 " Scale1 1/2" nut width Chambered Maple bodySolid Spruce TopLace Sensor low profile electric pickupSide mounted volume & tone controls for electric pickupCustom Godin Saddle Transducers and with 3-band EQNatural Semi-GlossGodin deluxe gig bagMade in CanadaIn our experience, Godin has long been the premier name in hybrid acoustic/electric instruments. Most of their products are geared towards guitar players but the A4 Ultra Fretless Bass is a total game changer. Upright basses are coveted works of art that cost a fortune and it's tough to find any solid body that comes close to that sultry tone. With its two-part chambered body the A4 has a warm acoustic sound that will make your audience do a double take. Not only is it fitted with a smooth, dense Ebony fretboard, the A4 features three different ways to play: It has a Lace sensor pickup, individual acoustic saddle transducers, and a 13-pin synth input. The controls are the same simple format that you'd find on the Godin Spectrum guitars and vary sightly depending on which input(s) you use. Here is a quick breakdown of the range of control possibilities:13 pin only:Synth volume slider controls volume of synthGuitar volume slider becomes a blend of magnetic pickup and bridgeSide knob volume closest to player becomes a master volume for magnetic pickup and bridgeMix jack only (both pickup and bridge transducer):Synth volume slider controls nothingGuitar volume slider becomes a blend of magnetic and bridgeSide knob volume closest to player becomes a master volume for magnetic pickup and bridgeAll three inputs:Synth volume slider controls volume of synthGuitar volume slider controls volume of bridgeSide knob volume closest to player controls master volume of magnetic pickupBy blending the Lace pickup and bridge transducers the A4 can sound warm, woody and acoustic, or spanky and funky like an electric bass. The addition of the 13-pin synth output means....well it's just about whatever you want it to be. Paired with a Roland or other compatible guitar synthesizer the A4 bass can be a bass and it's own private orchestra. While "limitless" might sound cliché, be sure you have a couple free hours to explore once you plug into the synth output. The Godin A4 Fretless bass is the epitome of what Godin does best: Pack a ton of usable and unique features into a high quality package, and offer it at a reasonable price. For jazz, small combo, world music, or general business band the A4 Fretless just kills it.
