Description
Vintage 1958 Fender Vibrolux Guitar AmplifierSCROLL DOWN FOR 25+ LARGE PHOTOSUp for bids is a vintage Fender Vibrolux amp from 1958. It needs a little attention so I thought I would list it as is before I spent the time and energy finding a qualified repairman, plus I know many buyers like to do the work themselves or have it done by their favorite shop. The serial number is 01424, the Jensen speaker has a 1958 date code, and the pots I checked had 1958 date codes (I didn't look at all of them but they all appear to be original to the amp). In addition, the date stamp on the tube chart is HE which also indicates 1958. As you can see the original tweed covering has been replaced by tan colored vinyl. It looks like it was recovered a LONG time ago, and the work was very well done by the standards of the day. I imagine it would have been considered a professional job at that time, just not as good as a modern vintage style restoration. The tan covering has been on long enough to get the look of a vintage amp, showing cigarette burns, small nicks and stains, etc. It actually has a nice relic style look in my opinion. The amp works but it will need some hopefully minor attention. The volume isn't quite what I would have expected it to be, and there is some background hiss and popping as you turn the knobs. There isn't any of the loud 60 cycle hum, just assorted noises and pops. Both volume controls and all of the inputs work , and the tone control works. The controls for tremolo depth and speed work, though again I would have expected more range in the tremolo so I suspect it needs some attention. I do not have the footswitch for the tremolo. This amp is supposed to use two 6V6 power tubes of course, but it came to me with one 6V6 and one 6L6, and someone has written 6L6 in pencil on the tube chart by one 6V6 diagram. I didn't even know it was possible to run an amp with that combination of tubes, and I don't know if the amp has been altered to accept the 6L6. Because of that I've only turned it on a few times to check out the sound and condition. UPDATE: I just replaced both 12ax7 tubes with new JJ brand parts and the sound and volume improved a bit. I'm including plenty of photos showing the various internal components so you amp experts can hopefully see anything out of the ordinary. To my eyes most if not all of the parts look original (or at least vintage) but I am far from an expert on amps. I'm including photos showing the transformers, and a small tag that I think fell off one of them as I was taking the amp apart to photograph. The knobs look original and the chrome control plate looks pretty good. It has a few small oxidation spots but nothing terrible. The Jensen speaker is missing part of the decal on the back but the date and model stamps are intact and clear. From what I can tell the short times I have plugged the amp in the speaker works but it does seem to rattle or buzz some so it might need replacment or reconed. The amp is missing two of the screws to mount the back panels. I don't know what else to add, so take a good look at all of the photos and feel free to ask any questions or let me know if you need additional photos. Again, the amp turns on and works, but the volume is a bit weaker than I would have expected and there are some noises and popping sounds when I turn the knobs, it has mismatched power tubes, and the tweed covering has been replaced. Bid with information in mind as I'm listing it AS IS / AS DESCRIBED AND SHOWN. Good luck!I CAN SHIP TO THE LOWER 48 STATES ONLY. FEDEX GROUND SHIPPING WILL BE $55.
