La chitarra elettrica K161 Kay Thin Twin fu presentata originariamente nel 1 52 e venne conosciuta come modello “Jimmy Reed' o 'Howlin' Wolf'. La Thin Twin fu la prima chitarra ad essere in grado di creare quel tipico suono blues grazie alla speciale catenatura interna Kay che rese questo strumento uno dei preferiti dai musicisti blues e tra i rocker emergenti e famosi degli anni '50 e '60. Il nome 'Thin Twin' si riferisce ai due pickup 'a lama', che forniscono un suono pulito, incisivo e dal sustain prolungato, diverso da tutti gli altri strumenti. La camera tonale con catene parallele della Thin Twin hollow body produce quel sound 'Gutsy-Bluesy-Raw', creando una chiara distorsione naturale priva di feedback.
