Hello, folks. For sale today we have one of the most sought after and historically significant acoustics in the Gibson line. This instrument was previously owned by one family, living on the east cost of Canada. This guitar was passed from father to son, who was a well-known local musician and the guitar has many great stories to tell. The Advanced Jumbo was built in limited quantities (around 300) and sold between 1936-1940. These are regraded as some of the best sounding Gibson acoustics of the golden era. This instrument in particular is a 1938 model bearing the serial number 12240-12. Details/condition:
Circa 1938 Gibson Advanced Jumbo Sunburst Acoustic Guitar, Serial # 12240. Completely sanded and re-finished with a 2.5 x 16 inch patched section along the treble side lower bout. There are 10 top cracks. Top binding appears to be original but the back binding has been replaced. There is also a small area of replaced wood on the back. The guitar has been re-fretted in a professional manner and there is a new bridge that is lifting with a leaning saddle. Even with these issues, this remains one of the most sought after guitars ever built by Gibson. Hard case included. Condition: Fair. The instrument, while in need of some restoration, is still an excellent player with a good action and an absolutely breathtaking sound. Comes with modern hard shell case. Please see attached photos and video to see and hear this instrument. Gibson Custom quoted $5,000 USD for a total restoration of this guitar; though it plays very well in its current state. Our asking price for this incredibly rare piece of history is $22,000 Canadian Dollars. FREE shipping is included in the Buy It Now price! Actual shipping charges apply to offers below our BIN price. Price is listed in CAD. I will consider close offers, as well. No trades. Due to the strong US dollar, this guitar is priced extremely well and is an incredible find. We hope to find the right home for this guitar. For an in-hand description, please call Bruce at (1 902) 440 4150. Video samples of the instrument are available upon request.
