I have an american made G&L ASAT Special here. It's a sweet sounding and playing guitar. It's had a professional setup and plays nicely.I am not sure the exact year on this one as G&L have notoriously difficult serial number codes.    From my observation i think it is a one piece ash body. The grain pattern and the sound of it makes me think ash and not alder. The pickups which are proprietary to G&L are really good, and a strong suit of this guitar. More clarity than a P90, but more muscle than a traditional single coil. I guess you can compare them to a hot single coil. But they are different even than that. A hot single coil gives you more gain and compression and sustain. This one has the touch sensitivity and reaction time of a standard S pickup, but overall it sounds "bigger" not like it is juiced up with more gain, it just has a larger soundstage. To my ears it does not have that chunky p90 sound, it is more refined and detailed than a P90.
It's a clean guitar. No major dings, just average to light playwear. The only issue i have noted about it is it has some hum to it that you can hear when the gain or volume is high on your amp. A friend of mine who is pretty guitar tech savvy thinks it could benefit from being either shielded with copper tape in the cavity or the electronics cavity painted with conductive paint. I do not notice it when i am playing, but when you pause in silence you can hear it. So it's up to the beholder if that is worth messing with or not. Structurally the guitar is sound.I have an older but decent hardcase for it to that it will ship in.Ships fully insured .Thanks for reading!
