This is the perfect banjo for a beginner who wants an easy to play banjo to learn on, or for a more seasoned player who just wants a light-weight travel banjo for camping, hiking, or any outdoor use. As far as banjos without a tone-ring go, this banjo is surprisingly responsive and projects well, having only a 3 ply Maple rim. There is minor fret wear and various scratches on the instrument, including the pictured headstock ding and a missing resonator screw. None of these wear marks affect the playability or tone of the instrument. The resonator and two piece flange are removable with a 9/32 hex wrench, which makes this banjo a versatile instrument for a 3 finger style player, or a claw-hammer banjoist. The banjo is equipped with the original Deering head and tailpiece, a new Gary Sosebee bridge (which, to my ear, has improved the tone tremendously), and railroad spikes on the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th frets, installed by Denver luthier, Edward Dick. The banjo also comes with a hardshell case and leather strap. Pictured stand not included.
