Description

Up for sale is a set of 8 extremely rare 1960's ADM 700A preamp/EQ modules, which are identical to those installed in the two ADM desks at Fine Recording in New York in 1968 and sound on par (or better than) a Neve 1073 module in side by side comparisons. These are easily some of the nicest sounding preamp/EQ modules I've ever used. The modules are fully discrete, use Langevin SMX attenuators, a UTC input transformer, a Freed/custom output transformer and UTC inductors. All the switches are milspec stepped switches with gold plating. These modules look and feel NOS with almost no wear on the faceplates, extremely solid feeling switches, no dust inside the modules, no wear on the connectors and with faders that all slide and feel like new. There are a few minor imperfections on the faceplates/modules, but overall these modules are in excellent condition for their age. These have been tested and come with the mating Amphenol connectors (one which is wired for use as a test harness). These are fantastic sounding modules which are nothing like the later and much more common 1970's ADM designs which used the 770 and 780 input modules. These early ADM modules were built to extremely high standards and are on par or better sounding than anything produced by Langevin, Quad Eight, Electrodyne, Spectra Sonics, Neve or API. The legendary Bob Fine at Fine Recording was an innovator in sound recording and installed two ADM desks in his NY studio that used these early 700A modules. Fine Recording was considered by many the leading studio on the East Coast in the 1960's/1970's and the 16 track ADM console installed at Fine Recording in 1968 was, at the time, the largest console outside of Hollywood. In the 1960's the two leading studios were United Western Recorders (Bill Putnam) on the West Coast and Fine Recording (Bob Fine) on the East Coast. Look no further if you are looking to build a sidecar that will rival any of the most exotic 1960's desks including Helios, Sound Techniques, EMI, Universal Audio, Siemens/Klangfilm, or early Neve designs.Module pinout information is included with this auction. Due to the nature of vintage electronics these modules are sold as-is with no warranty implied or expressed.
