Bechstein Model V Upright Piano With An Ebonised Case C.1890 A quality C. Bechstein Model V Upright Piano built in Berlin circa 1890. Ebonised case in good condition, full iron frame, oblique strung with underdamped action, 7 octaves, 85 note original keyboard, soft and sustain pedals, retractable music desk, medium touch and warm Bechstein tone, scuffs and scrapes to case commensurate with age, well maintained instrument, tuned and inspected November 2016. An excellent beginner to intermediate instrument by the prestigious German maker. A matching piano stool can be purchased separately. Dimensions W 148cm x H 128cm x D 62cm Bechstein History The Bechstein name is synonymous with Germany's finest piano building traditions. Carl Bechstein opened his piano factory under the name of C. Bechstein in Berlin, Germany in 1853 (the same year Steinway established the Steinway factory in New York). The firm's reputation for building superior instruments spread quickly and during the 19th Century Bechstein was one of the most celebrated piano builders in the world. These 19th Century Bechstein pianos were known for having a very melodic tonal quality enjoyed by many of the notable composers of the time. Carl Sr. died in 1900, leaving the firm to his sons Carl Jr., Johann and Edwin. The firm continued to celebrate massive success well into the 20th Century. Bechstein is one of the few piano manufacturers in the world to survive 160+ years, and they are still building exceptional pianos today.
