Roland RE-301 Tape Echo. The unit is in fantastic condition and all pieces and parts are included as seen in pictures. No tears or major scuffs on the tole. Hinges and screws are all properly seated and are not worn. Face plate is in beautiful condition.I purchased this unit two years ago from LA Synth shop in California. It had been fully serviced and checked. They replaced the VU light with a white led light which will last forever. It arrived as advertised and works as it is supposed to. I have noticed, though, that the reverb on this unit emits a weird tone that renders the reverb useless. Once the machine warms up, the sound goes away. I am unsure what causes this. I rarely use the reverb on the unit as I have always found it lacking. I normally use the reverb that is in the amplifier and the reverb on this unit is dialed to zero. The sound of the tape echo is beautiful. All knobs are quiet and work well. The choices of echo type are useful and varied. The intensity rate is set more for a guitarist and self oscillates towards the upper end of the knob range. If you use this with a keyboard, you might want to set that a little lower (involves turning a trim tab inside the unit). The overall sound is tremendous. It really adds a dimension to your sound that i have yet to hear from other units. If you are interested in these units, know that they are fickle and you will have a difficult time finding tape that works well. My solution for this has been to cut my own loops. Originally, I started using Maxell UDXL 35-90B tape. The sound was robust but the tapes did not last more that 10 hours of play time. I switched to new Pyral LPR35 and found that it worked very well. Sound was as robust as the maxell and lasts much much longer. Then I switched to old 8 track tapes and they by far are the best. I cut 8 foot sections on a splicing block and secure together using splicing tape. All of this is included with the auction. I never bought a single tape on line and you won't have to either. If you find another tape you like, just splice it together and have fun. Flea markets and yard sales offer tons of old tape. Another thing you will notice is that you must clean the heads once in a while as well as the roller that rides against the drive shaft. This is critical if you want constant useable sound with fewer warbles and imperfections. Clean the tape heads as well. Old tape sheds and leaves behind particles that build up. so a dab of isopropyl alcohol on a qtip is a good thing. This unit is sold "As Is." I say that because you have to realize that it is a completely analog mechanical machine that might frustrate you at times. For me, it was the search for a tape source that the machine would actually accept. I solved that with the 8track tape and the Pyral tape. And I have included that stuff with the auction. The Maxell tape, is in my view, not too good. You'll see that most frustration for most owners surrounds tape quality and life of the tape. Most sound anomalies are because of a dirty roller or dirty tape heads. Always check these things first when you hear warbles that you don't like. I purchased this for $1,499. I am selling it for $1,399 with all of the tape supplies because of the noisy reverb. I will also include the proper Acutronics replacement reverb pan which is flavored towards a long echo reverb sound. PayPal only. Sale open to contiguous US only. Please ask questions before bidding. I am open to all questions and any question is welcome. Verified addresses only, No PO boxes please. Shipping is a flat 40$. If it is less than that I will send you the remainder back. If more, I will eat the cost.
