The Flea Jazz Bass® is the result of a true collaboration between SoCal natives—Flea and Fender—a match made in alternative heaven. The Flea Jazz Bass powers Flea’s individualistic style, providing the punch and growl that fuels his funk- and punk-inspired bass playing. Handcrafted in our Ensenada, Mexico facility, this Signature Series bass is a precise recreation of his instrument, which was painstakingly studied, measured and replicated down to the finest detail by our expert luthiers. In Flea’s own words, “ The greatest bass I’ve ever played is this ’61 Fender Jazz Bass. It’s just a magic bass. The weight of it, the way it feels in my hands, the way it plays. When I hold it, it just feels like...Ahhhhhh.” A pair of vintage-style, American-made Pure Vintage ’64 Jazz Bass single-coil pickups provides classic, original-era Fender tone with clear articulation, robust low end definition, up-front midrange punch and singing high end. The vintage-accurate stacked concentric controls shape the pickups’ volume and tone, as well as allowing the pickups to be blended in any ratio. The Flea Jazz Bass plays fast and easy, thanks to its period-accurate 20-fret “ C” -shaped maple neck witha smooth Road Worn® nitrocellulose lacquer finish on the back, plus a 7.25” -radius roswood fingerboard with a 1.5” wide nut. Flea and Fender share the same philosophy when it comes to building instruments or writing songs—we have a responsibility to bring everything we’ve got to it, and we’re cool with just being us.
