Earthworks TC30K Time Coherent omnidirectional microphone. A pair of these were my main stereo recording setup for orchestras, ensembles, choirs and any other session that called for the highest quality stereo recording. I used it on many jazz, blues and folk sessions as well, mixed in with a number of spot microphones. The Earthworks TC30K is a brilliant omnidirectional recording microphone. It's stunning how much detail this microphone captures. A pair of these can reproduce the most complex acoustic environments that exist. They are also amazing on a drum kit. One tucked under the ride, back about 18" from the floor tom and the other placed between the kick and hi-hat aimed at the snare. It's a natural stereo kit sound that is perfect for jazz. Paired with a Jecklin disk they create recordings that transport you to that exact time and space. The imaging and localization is flawless and the depth of field is vast. Acoustic instruments leap out of the speakers and sit with you in 3D space. It was a joy to record with this setup and an even bigger joy to spend hours listening to those recordings.
