Description Brand: Fender Exact Year: 1966
This is hands down the most resonant guitar neck I've ever come across and, at just over 50 years old, it's a true piece of music history. A neck like this really doesn't come around often at all these days. When lightly tapped, it imparts the most musical and chimey tapping sounds I've ever heard from a guitar neck, and I do this resonance test to all the guitar necks that come through my hands. It sounds like musical wood chimes. Installed on a strat body, it was pure sonic bliss and the best vinatge strat tone in spades. These 1966 necks were made exactly like pre-CBS strat necks from late 1962-1965, with the only change in construction being the large headstock with the transitional Fender logo. Brazilian rosewood veneer fretboard and nitrocellulose lacquer finish (in GREAT non-worn condition)! You could say that 1966 represents the last year that Stratocasters were truly made like they were in the pre-CBS days. This neck comes with the original string tree and tuner bushings installed. The frets are also original. They are very level. The fretboard edges are slightly rolled from being played, and many players feel this makes old necks more comfortable. The nitrocellulose lacquer finish is very much intact and is not worn away as it is on most vinatge Fender necks. The finish is actually in stunningly good condition for a neck of this age. It has light natural checking on the headstock, and has very lightly yellowed with age. There are only two negatives, and they don't affect the functionality of this neck. First, the neck once had 70's Fender tuners installed, so there are tiny screw holes in the back of the headstock left over. The neck was NOT reamed in any way and the tuner holes and bushings are for the original vintage tuners. Second, this neck was routed for a 70's style three bolt heel. This in no way affects its stability or functionality. When the neck is installed, you can't tell in any way. It's basically cosmetic. Besides those two things, the neck is completely original. The logo is slightly worn away on the word "Stratocaster". But the Fender logo is still there, big and bold. Oh, my favorite part is that this neck has some serious FLAME on it! It's really not often that you find an authentic vintage lacquered Fender Stratocaster neck with practically no lacquer wear and beautiful flame figuring and acoustic resonance in the wood! I'm selling this neck because I wanted to build a 1966 Stratocaster from 1966 parts, but realized that the project would be too expensive and, if I went through with it, I would be too scared to play out with the guitar. Anyways, here's your chance to own this historic and amazingly resonant neck at a price very comparable to a new custom shop neck. If you have no feedback, please contact me before bidding. Serious bidders only, please! I will be shipping fully insured and tracked. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be more than glad to answer them.
