Shakuhachi Japanese Flute, 1.8 made by David 'Chikugo' Brown, a master craftsman and maker of shakuhachi. David makes shakuhachi from wood, finding them to be more stable and durable, which has earned him high acclaim around the world. This Shakuhachi was made for me by David in June 2016. The wood used is from the native Australian Gidgee (Acacia cambagei) taken from outback Queensland and had been stored and air dried since 2010. Gidgee is known for being hard wearing, stable and dense, making it a great tonewood for woodwinds. This Shakuhachi features a brass and cork Nakasuké (joint) bound with rattan. The Utaguchi (mouthpiece) has a black wedge lined with silver. The internal bore has been finished in red enamel to prevent moisture damage. Included is a mount piece cover and bag all made by David.  David's maker mark is stamped on the back of the Shakuhachi.  David played this Shakuhachi the day he handed to me. It has not been played since.
