The Les Paul Classic model has an inked-on five or six-digit serial number similar to the serialization of the 1950s and 1960s. In 1989, a four-digit serial number was used beginning with “9”. During the 1990s, a five-digit serial number was used and the first number indicates that last digit of the year (51245 = 1995). During the 2000s, a six-digit serial number was used and the first two numbers indicate that last two digits of the year (031245 = 2003).
I Say:OK this is no collectors item.  The guitar and case both show significant signs of wear and tear.  Unfortunately the previous owner had a good belt collection – and has left quite a bit of buckle rash on the rear of the body.  The back of the neck has a few small indentations caused by leaning the guitar against an amp, and the edges of the rear of the guitar show a few fairly large chips – all shown in the photos.  The rosewood fingerboard is in good condition, but the frets do show some minor wear. The front of the body has relatively few marks, but I can’t describe it as unmarked – there are no chips out of the front finish. So – that’s the bad news.As a “player’s” guitar this is a great piece of kit – all electronics are crackle free and fully functional.  The Gibson embossed pickups are the standard 490 type – classic sound! The case is functional but shows wear and tear along the edges – one of the clasps is damaged, missing it’s clasp section.
