When PreSonus designed StudioLive mixers, we wanted to combine the ease of a surface-driven analog workflow with the power of digital mixing. What’s more, we wanted to deliver it a price that anybody could afford. The StudioLive 16.4.2 and 24.4.2 revolutionized the way modern mixing is done by incorporating a powerful, continuously bidirectional audio interface, tons of DSP horsepower, and the flexibility to mix your show and your monitors from anywhere in the venue. The new generation of StudioLive AI mixers builds on the legacy of their predecessors, adding even more processing, 96 kHz support, and a level of software integration only found in high-end touring consoles. The ease of analog meets the power of digital. When you’re mixing a live event or have an artist in the studio, you need to be able to work quickly. Unique to the StudioLive design is its familiar interface that keeps all critical controls visible and accessible —not buried in multiple menus or layers. Our design philosophy is simple: One fader for every channel, one output for every bus. This is the power of a surface-driven workflow. But don’t let the analog feel fool you: StudioLive mixers provide total recall and a unique soft-takeover feature that makes each fader active the moment its position has been recalled. Among the employees of PreSonus, there are more band members, live sound engineers, and logged studio hours than you can shake a guitar pick at. All of us have struggled with the less-than-intuitive interfaces of other digital mixers, with their bank switching, layers, nested menus, and complex routing. StudioLive mixers do not use banks or layers, so you always know where you are and what you’re controlling. Once you learn that the Select button on each channel and bus accesses the Fat Channel processing section, you know how to use a StudioLive mixer. All key features you need to mix and record are right in front of you on the mixing surface. Sit down at a StudioLive AI mixer, and you see easily accessed, color-coded function buttons for Mute and Solo; rotary trim controls; and clearly labeled, individual knobs for EQ and dynamics processing. Aux sends have their own physical controls. Every channel has a big, bright meter display and a dedicated level fader that only serves that function. The master section comes complete with Talkback, Monitor, Cue, and a choice of control-room sources. It looks just like the master section on an analog board but with far more power and flexibility. Bottom line: If you’ve ever used an analog mixer, you’ll be right at home with a StudioLive AI mixer. And even if you’ve never used a mixer before, you’ll quickly be able to create professional mixes and recordings. The future is Active Integration. StudioLive AI-series mixers start with all the strengths that made StudioLive mixers famous. Then we pushed the technology to the next level with Active Integration™ (AI). Each Active Integration component is designed to communicate with the entire networked system and provide a focused workflow for the task at hand. This allows you to use the device most suited for what you are doing, when you are doing it: Ring out monitors with your iPad while you’re standing in front of them; dial in your musicians’ monitor mixes from the stage with an iPhone and then hand it off for them to control; and view the frequency content of channels and buses while you EQ them. That’s just the beginning! StudioLive AI mixers share a common language with all of the software applications that are included to enhance your mixing experience. This enables the applications and the hardware to interact in powerful and useful ways that are unique to the StudioLive workflow. Channel names entered in UC Surface or Capture or from the StudioLive AI mixer’s Channel Info page are broadcast throughout the network, so you only have to name a channel once—and you can name it from anywhere. You can launch a Smaart® wizard in UC Surface and then control it wirelessly from your iPad. There’s much more. You can save and load your StudioLive AI mixer scene with your Capture™ session and open it in Studio One. Studio One loads all your track names and audio edits. What’s more, your StudioLive AI mix scene is loaded into the Studio One mixer, including fader levels, mutes, pans, and FX send mixes. Fat Channel settings are loaded into Studio One’s new Fat Channel Native Effects™ plug-in. The result: Your Studio One session sounds just like your live mix. You can also share presets between the Studio One Fat Channel plug-in and UC Surface, enabling you to dial in new presets in your studio and take them with you on the road. Active Integration products combine powerful, 32-bit floating-point DSP; wireless and wired networking; USB 2.0 connectivity; and proprietary software to solve real-world live-sound and studio problems. PreSonus leads the industry in hardware/software integration, and Active Integration takes this concept to a new level, offering high-end capabilities that have never been available before in an affordable digital mixer. Current Active Integration products employ cutting-edge OMAP™ L138 processors — a whole computer on a chip. These 32-bit, 96 kHz multi-stream CPUs operate at 350 MHz and feature an operating system, 100 Mb Ethernet communications, USB 2.0 and 1.1, and lavish amounts of high-speed RAM. In PreSonus StudioLive™ AI-series digital mixers, Active Integration technology includes powerful Wi-Fi remote control over a variety of features, using free Mac®, Windows®, and iPad® software. In addition, Active Integration enables standard Ethernet communications and optional Dante and AVB networking, making possible extremely flexible, powerful, networked systems. Thanks to Active Integration, the StudioLive AI-series mixers have 64 times the processing power and an incredible 10,000 times more RAM than the previous top-of-the-line StudioLive 24.4.2. This makes possible an extended feature set, including twice as many internal effects buses, and the ability to create two complete sets of EQ and dynamics settings for a channel and then make quick A/B comparisons at the touch of a button—all built on the same 64-bit architecture that makes Studio One sound so good. But Active Integration doesn’t stop with hardware. The new StudioLive AI software suite has also been redesigned to take advantage of the new networking features. The hardware / software solution. Only PreSonus StudioLive AI-series mixers are tightly integrated with an entire suite of state-of-the-art software that helps you mix, record, produce, and distribute your recordings to the world. StudioLive AI-series mixers are the center of a cohesive universe of software that works together to help you achieve your creative vision. Front-of-house anywhere you want or need it with UC Surface for iPad®. Tune your entire system with the Smaart® System Wizards in UC Surface for Mac OS X and Windows.
Empower musicians to control their own monitor mixes with QMix-AI (iPhone®, iPod® touch). A gigantic console in a small package. StudioLive AI mixers provide more DSP processing power than any other mixer in their class. There are no limitations or compromises, no shared resources, no figuring out what processing is available where. You have all of the processing available at all times. No compromises or caveats: a compressor, limiter, expander/gate, and fully parametric EQ on every channel and bus; four effects processors, each with their own dedicated mix bus; a 31-band graphic EQ on every aux mix plus the mains; and 500 ms of delay available to each of the four subgroups. Each StudioLive AI mixer channel and bus has its own studio-grade compressor, limiter, gate/expander, and 4-band parametric equalizer. Each input channel, aux bus, and effects bus has a highpass filter, and all input channels have polarity invert. It all fits into one remarkable processing and routing section known as the Fat Channel. To let you get the most from all of this processing power without descending into menu purgatory, we designed the Fat Channel with clearly labeled, physical knobs; an ingenious, multifunction, 16-ladder LED display; an in-your-face Selected Channel display; and even a separate horizontal pan display. It’s easy to instantly access any function and get clear, visible feedback. The bright blue Select button is fully illuminated only for the active channel or bus, so you know at a glance which channel or bus you’re processing. You can create two complete sets of EQ and dynamics-processor settings for every channel and bus and then make quick A/B comparisons at the touch of the Alt EQ & Dyn button. This gives you the ability to create two complete channel strip settings for every input and output. Does your guitar player use a Strat for some songs and Les Paul for others? Don’t use up two channels; create two completely different Fat Channel settings for each guitar and access them with the press of a button before the guitarist has strapped on the next axe! StudioLive AI mixers come equipped with four 32-bit stereo effects engines, each on their own dedicated bus, so you don’t have to sacrifice an aux mix to add a little reverb. Two dedicated reverb buses and two dedicated delay buses are provided, each with their own return to each of the aux mixes so you can easily dial in just the right amount of effects in your monitor mixes. You get graphic EQ on every aux bus and on the mains—if you’re keeping score, that’s 16 graphic EQs on the 32.4.2AI—with two settings for each, all at the same time, without compromising other resources. Each graphic EQ has an A/B option, so you can, for example, boost the bass for a rock band and then switch over to a “smiley face” for intermission program music. Connect the StudioLive AI mixer to UC Surface over a FireWire connection, and you can use the Smaart Spectra™ Spectrograph and RTA and StudioLive EQs to quickly kill feedback building up in floor wedges before the musicians even notice it! Abundant analog connections. Take a look at back panel of a StudioLive AI-series mixer, and you’ll find the robust analog connections you’d expect from an expensive analog mixer: separate balanced mic and line inputs and insert points on every channel; dedicated balanced outputs for every aux bus, subgroup, and the mains; and a wealth of other dedicated inputs and outputs. Every input channel and bus send has its own dedicated jack—no sharing, no compromises. Most digital mixers force you to configure your inputs and outputs and define their functions and routing. Input 1 may be feeding Channel 13; Output 3 might be Aux 1 or Subgroup 4, depending on who used the console last. But StudioLive mixers aren’t old-school, menu-diving, layer-flipping digital consoles. StudioLive AI-series mixers have dedicated mix buses with physical outputs. Aux mix 1 always feeds the Aux 1 output, Aux mix 2 feeds the Aux 2 output, and so on. The same is true of the subgroups, the monitor bus, talkback input, and so on. You never run short of outputs, and you never have to decide which bus goes to which jack. Wiring and routing are consistent and obvious. StudioLive mixers also have XLR mic inputs, ¼” TRS line inputs, and analog insert points for every channel, unlike most digital mixers in this price range. You get analog direct channel outputs on DB25 connectors, too, with eight channels per connector. With StudioLive, you never run short of analog I/O, and you never have to wonder which output a bus is feeding. This is analog connectivity with no compromises. Inside, it's pure PreSonus. PreSonus has its roots deep in the studio world. Our founder, Jim Odom, set out to make quality studio equipment, and that legacy carries on today with our boutique line of microphone preamps and studio monitors. We understand that a great mix is dependent on a great front end. Getting a great mix in the digital environment means that front end has to include great converters and a high-quality summing engine, like the one you’ll find in our award-winning DAW, Studio One. We use this same 64-bit summing engine in our StudioLive AI mixers. So when we say “StudioLive” we mean studio-quality sound with live-sound durability and performance. Create customized systems—up to 64 Channels! Only AI mixers let you create a large-format console on a small-format budget. Start with 16, 24, or 32 channels, then cascade a second StudioLive AI-series mixer of any frame size to create custom-sized mixing consoles with all the hardware and software advantages of StudioLive Active Integration systems. Now your system can grow with your needs and budget!
