1959 Valco Dwight TWEED Class A Guitar Amp HOT ROD MOD AC15 TB TONE MONSTER TUBE
Estimated price for orientation: 600 $
Category: Guitar Amplifiers
Class:
Description Brand: Valco / Montgomery Wards Amplifier Technology: Vacuum Tube Amplifier Type: Guitar Amp Combo Country/Region of Manufacture: United States
One absolute TONE MONSTER! Made for a regional music store in East St Louis in the 50's that gave it the name "Dwight", though the amp was made for several other names and is a certified classic! It has the same circuitry as the Valco 6400, and was made throughout the early 50's to the early 60's. This amp is potentially your new favorite amp! For live, miked up, recording, wherever you need the genuine sound of a true class A amp, with subtle REAL overdrive, spread out among the preamp, power section and vintage speaker… it's THAT sound… the one you can't get in a pedal… the one everyone wishes they could get!I modded this one without changing any original equipment, so now it is powered by much more readily available EL84 power tubes and modified the inputs so that they are much hotter, making for the most sublime overdrive you will ever hear! Very reminiscent of a TB AC15, with the original Jensen 10" ceramic speaker! There are no words for the tone coming out of this thing, so the only thing I can do is make a recording of it as it sounds, with no pedals or effects. This Amp does great clean, dirty and everything in between all by itself… it's exactly as you would expect a true class A amp to sound, transparent and shockingly loud for it's size and power rating. Left stock, these have a somewhat cold sound with a wimpy preamp section, but the subtle mods performed without altering any of the original gear, make this among the top ten amps i've ever owned or heard! new power tubes and power switch are the only thing not original on this little beast. Check out the tone and variety of sounds gotten from this in this HD streaming audio sample. I will demo the clean tone and everything in between. Absolutely no pedals were used, just a STRAT and a cord!
