Description 1980s Hiwatt Lead 50R Reverb Valve Amplifier Head.Hiwatt made arguably some of the best amplifiers of the 60s and 70s - most notably their DR201 head. Notable users included Pete Townsend of The Who. They continued to chop and change certain aspects of their amplifier until they came up with the Lead 50 with Reverb, both in head and combo versions, in the 1980s. They retained most of the quality parts of their classics, at a fraction of the price. They still have a sound to die for, even in todays market!Product Details Serial Number: 29901Watts: 50 watts Impedance: 8 or 16 ohms Power Valves: 2x EL34 Pre-Amp Valves: 5x ECC83 Power Valve Brands: 1x Mullard & 1x SiemensPre-Amp Valve Brands: 5x Mullard (? See Picture ?)Transformers: Original DouglasTransformer Codes: M2647 (only visible)Voltage Selector: UK 240VService History We pride ourselves on the inspection, authentication, and service of each amplifier, making this ready to plug in and play. It may require extra work (valves all tested as OK) to get it up to a high standard, but plays great as it is.Please note that it is the philosophy of The Music Locker to keep all amplifiers as original as possible, only changing original components when absolutely necessary. This includes valves, capacitors, transformers, potentiometers, etc. This gives the buyer the option of tailoring to their exact needs, and may mean that the amplifier is not operating at optimum performance levels. Therefore, your personal preference may differ, depending on your circumstances (i.e. collector or musician), and you may decide to service the amplifier in more depth upon receiving. The Music Locker cannot accept responsibility for any costs of refurbishment to a standard different to the one advertised. Cosmetic Inspection This has been well loved in the past. There are a few knocks and bumps to it, but nothing significant to report. The handle ends look slightly rusted. Please have a close look at the high resolution photographs below, as these form part of our description.Originality In our opinion, the important parts of this amplifier are original, with a few internal components changed. Summary Overall, this is a very rare and collectable amplifier. Not only is this sure to increase in value year on year, but also it can be an enjoyed investment. You’re more than welcome to come along and have a play on this, coupled with one of our vintage guitars! Where else but at The Music Locker!
