Up for sale, a 2006 Gretsch Anniversary model 6118T-120 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Marking the 120th anniversary of the Gretsch company, this model was a turning point for Gretsch, with top-tier features and vintage correct specs. This guitar marked a return to the correct vintage Anniversary body shape, with a 16" lower bout, three-ply laminate maple construction, and classic parallel bracing on the top with sound posts connecting the top and back. This resulted in a very acoustically dynamic and warm sounding instrument which really shines when plugged in, thanks to the factory installed TV Jones Filter'Tron humbuckers. There's a fullness, signature twang, and distinct midrange quality that defines the traditional Gretsch tonal palette, and this Anniversary delivers everything from shimmering top end snap to smooth, mellow tones with the neck pickup engaged (or aid of the three-way tone switch). Weighing in at 7lbs 6oz, this Gretsch is easy on the back too, and we've just had it professionally setup here at our shop with fresh 11-50 strings and comfortable action. The neck has a medium C shaped profile that borders on the slimmer side of things, with fairly slight shoulders and an effortless feel. The slab ebony fretboard features neo-classic thumbnail inlays and fretwire that has a bit more height and roundness than you'd expect on a vintage Gretsch. These frets play cleanly up the neck with near perfectly rounded crowns and their original factory height. There is very faint wear on frets 1-3 beneath the plain strings, but even this modest playwear is very minimal. The nut has been upgraded to a hand carved piece of bone which improves the overall sustain and string to string balance of the instrument, measuring 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, the "Anniversary 1883-2003" badge is intact (Gretsch kept this model in production until 2008), and the original Grover Sta-Tite tuners still work as they should. The headstock did suffer a fracture at the heel which was cleanly and professionally repaired. Best seen in the included closeup photo, this repair was well done and the instrument is structurally sound, handling full string tension as it should. While the repair can still be lightly felt central to the joint where there were a couple tiny finish chips, the finish in this area is very smooth overall. All of the electronics work as they should, and consistent with the first TV Jones pickups used in Fender-era Gretsch guitars, the Filter'Trons have their traditional patent numbers on the covers and don't state the name of the manufacturer as with later models. The pickups feature independent Volume controls as well as a Master Volume on the treble side body horn and three-way Tone and pickup selector switches on the bass side upper bout. The chrome hardware is in great shape on the pickup covers, roller bridge, and Bigsby B6 vibrato unit with only faint surface patina. The USA-made Bigsby also works very smoothly for surfy warbles and dives too. The Gretsch model/serial label is visible through the bass side F hole, matching the details noted on the headstock.Cosmetically, the guitar is a very clean and well cared for example, with the professional headstock repair being the only serious wear of note. There are only a few extremely tiny nicks on the body as a whole, and the classic Bamboo Yellow top and Copper Mist metallic back and sides is a unique and classic Gretsch look. The original hardshell case, COA, OK card, and assorted paperwork is included.
