MV102 Tube is a custom-built large diaphragm recording microphone made to be musical in every sense of the word. Put it in front of the artist to capture the vocals so rich and natural that it seems you can touch it. Use it for piano or double bass to hear them so deep and detailed as never before. MV102 Tube has gorgeous sweetness and warmth and perfectly sits in a mix. Forget about overload or sibilance, with acoustically "ideal" high voltage transducer MV102 Tube offers smooth and dynamic capturing with no hint on  harshness or a stress, no matter how loud or agressive your source. The lack of proximity effect helps MV102 Tube to reproduce the low frequencies fuller and tight at any distance. The polarization control and a vintage mode allows to get plenty shades of coloration for even more exciting results. MV102 Tube offers the ultimate performance for those who insist on the very best.
Meet the classics you never heard.
We build our microphones completely manually, piece by piece, using top-grade vintage Gefell capsules, selected 1960s tubes, and premium handpicked components. We solder and check every single joint and wire. We put our hearts and passions into everything we do, from circuit ideas to hand-etched logos. All with aim of making the finest creative tools that inspire you at first sight and for years.

Designed by in 1950s, the pressure transducer of MV102 Tube utilizes the same uncompromised concept as  the legendary Bruel & Kjaer capsules. Initially  intended for precise acoustic measurements, it is made with unprecedented accuracy. All important parts are made of pure nickel, including a membrane (prepared in a special galvanic process) and a thin mirror-smooth back electrode. The nickel membrane is tightened hard and it operates under 200 volts polarization. This results in a dramatically higher linearity of the electro-acoustical conversion. Comparing to conventional large-diaphragm capsule, a simple near-ideal design of HV pressure transducer provides a  far  cleaner, smoother and more dynamic sound along with high SPL-capability, true LF-response and no off-axis coloration. The high-stable materials and precise manufacturing guarantees an excellent long-term and thermal stability of parameters for many decades. We use original "new old stock" Gefell capsules, made in Germany. All the capsules are carefully checked and matched in pairs within + - 1 dB.
MV102 TUBE is originally conceived to be as sweet and hot as the lovely tube mics of the past. But you can't just take the schematics from an old mic, because the highly sensitive 200V capsule overloads it in a blink of an eye. That's why all the existing high-voltage microphones use a tube as just a linear buffer. This works well, but doesn’t enrich the sound. So we designed the circuit that has the best of both worlds. It provides a great dynamic range and headroom, it brings the subtle tube "magic" that is inherent to all the brilliant microphones, and also offers two coloration modes to choose from. The heart of the amplifier is a hand-selected 1960s 6S6B subminiature military triode, the USSR analogue of a famous AC701. Being one of the best sounding vintage tube available, it's also quite low-noise.
In contrast to a vintage transformer-based design, MV102 Tube utilizes the proprietary transformerless technology. The very minimalistic class-A output stage perfectly complements the tube, ensures a large dynamic range and easily drives long cables. The circuit is free of ICs, any sort of attenuators or filters and is built purely from discrete parts that guaranteе the most authentic and smooth sound performance.
Clarity and dynamic range.
The MV102 Tube PSU offers a six-step knob that allows to determine precisely the right polarization voltage to achieve the desired sound. The 200 volts is a nominal value for the capsule, offering the crisp and accurate sound and highest sensitivity. Rotate the switch to lower voltage to tame an edgy sound source and get more colored midrange. With a range of 0dB to minus 12dB of sensitivity, the 6 positions offer an opportunity to dial in the sweet spot and customize the sound of the MV102 Tube to perfectly capture the unique sonics and character of your vocalist or instrument.
MV102 Tube provides the sound of two different microphones in a single click and most importantly - without complication of signal chain and loss of performance. Just flip this switch up to drive the tube stage for the retrospective sound with creamy overtones and a little bit of polished top-end. This sounds especially pleasant on vocals. Flip the switch down and you're back in the present with a shining high-resolution tone.  Like a polarization control, the vintage mode is independent for each mic in a pair.
For feeding very sensitive circuits we designed a linear, ultra low noise power supply with custom-wound toroidal transformer. Both the heater and the plate voltages are ultra-stable and non-dependent on AC changes of fluctuations. Along with precise regulation, PSU ensures the smooth power-up and correct sequence of voltages supply, essential for long life of tubes. A startup, shutdown and all the settings changes are completely silent.
Is MV102 Tube suitable for home studio use?
You can successfully use MV102 Tube in а home studio. In general, omnidirectional microphones are more sensitive to a leakage and room acoustics, but this sounds a lot more natural than with directional microphones, so it can be both a plus and a minus depending on the case. For most tasks of close-miking the MV102 Tube is not inferior to directional microphones. A serious interference may occur only in a quite boomy room.
Are there mics that are similar to MV102 Tube?
There is no microphone with exactly the same design and sound. The closest models are discontinued DPA4040 and 4041T. They use a large-diaphragm high-voltage transducer. MV102 Tube uses a different circuitry, a triode plate follower, which is hotter and more colored instead of a pentode cathode follower of DPAs, which is very neutral. It can be said that the MV102 Tube is a cross between the crystal accuracy of DPA and warmth of classic tube microphones. Another related model is a Neumann M150, that uses a similar transducer of smaller size and IC-based electronics, while MV102 Tube is fully discrete.
