Estimated price for orientation: 799 $
Category: Bass Guitars
Class:
Description Dexterity: Right-Handed Body Type: Solid Brand: Hagstrom Model: H IIN String Configuration: 4 String Country/Region of Manufacture: Sweden Exact Year: 1966
This is a very cool 1966 Hagstrom HIIB electric bass made in Sweden in very nice condition. The serial number is 701815. It is entirely original except for a replacement nut and plays perfectly. The pickups and electronics work perfectly the neck is dead straight and the original frets have almost no wear so it plays and works like new. It is not perfect, when you look carefully there is a finish crack in the lacquer on the front near the lower strap button and there is a finish crack on the back of the neck running lengthwise near the heel but it is just in the finish so there is nothing to repair. Overall the cosmetics are great though and that applies to the very cool original case as well. Considering that its 50 years old it is probably hard to find a much better example. I remember when these were new and Hagstrom was one of the few companies that made instruments that played as well as Fenders. Its still true after all these years, this bass plays effortlessly and the neck is dead straight. There are even the original tools and some new 60s felt picks in the case compartment. I'm not sure what the 2nd wrench is for; it looks like it was made for the height adjustments on the Hagstrom solid body guitars which had a different type of bridge. The scale length is about 30-3/4 inches and the nut width is about 1-/12 inches so the bass is very comfortable and relatively light for a solid body bass but still made with good solid hard wood and finished in lacquer. I have large hands and can play it easily but its also perfect for someone that has smaller hands or wants a bass with a shorter scale length. It has ancient flat wound strings on it and is just screaming to be played in a punk band. They may be the original strings. It sounds great too. I also have a new set of D'Addario round wound medium scale strings that will be included; the old flat wounds are just too cool to take off but I will put the new strings on and include the old ones if you prefer. This is a really cool bass. Imagine what it would be worth if it was a white 60s Fender bass in this condition. Buyer to pay actual shipping charges and I will pack it carefully.
