Up for sale, a 1962 Gibson "Discoverer Tremolo" model GA-8T vintage tube amplifier in excellent condition and in good working order. One of the very first GA-8T amps produced (components date to 1961 although the amp debuted in '62), this 1x12 tube amp has a warm and balanced clean tone, but it's the churning overdrive where this amp truly shines. At 15 watts it's the perfect secret weapon for tracking in the studio, and the overdrive is particularly creamy and smooth. Very similar to the revered Gibsonette in terms of its tonal character, the slightly larger speaker and cab of the Discoverer add increased low end and overall richness to the tone. Of course the tremolo effect is a highlight as well, with a thick, percussive quality and wide range of available speeds. The original wedge shaped footswitch for activating the tremolo is included too! The circuit has been recently serviced and everything works as intended, with original transformers that date to 1961. Aside from the main filter caps which have been recently replaced to keep the amp operating properly, the components in the circuit are largely original, and the tag board for the preamp is one of the cleanest layouts in any vintage Gibson amp. The original Jensen alnico 12" speaker is present too and has a date code from 1961, with a clean gray frame and original Jensen foil sticker on the magnet.
The amp retains the original smooth blonde tolex as well as the oxblood grillcloth and raised Gibson logo. The stock handle is present, and the chrome on the faceplate shows moderate pitting, with roughly half of the original silkscreen text still visible around the controls. Two of the stock chicken head knobs are present, while the other two are modern replacements. While there is some expected nicks and wear around the edges of the enclosure, this Discoverer Tremolo is very original and complete, working reliably and ready for use on the road or in the studio!
