Schilke X3L Professional Bb Trumpet4 7/8 Inch Beryllium Tuning Bell .463 Large BoreAbsolutely Pristine One Owner HornSerial Number 4688 from 1970No DentsExcellent ValvesThis is a very special trumpet owned since new by a friend of mine that plays in a local orchestra. He has several trumpets and decided it is time to thin the collection.Schilke never had designs on selling more trumpets than anyone else. They simply wanted to make the very best trumpet out there. As I met Schilke owners in this area, they were among the best and certainly most knowledgable players. There seems to be a connection. This trumpet has a Beryllium or quite thin high copper content bell. The fact that it is tuned at the spot where the bell connects to the valve casing gives it a freer blow due to the lack of a tuning slide. With less mass to absorb vibrations it is both more resonant and responds quicker and the lighter weight bell with more copper makes for a very warm sound in the low to mid registers that then becomes brilliant as you soar into the upper register and pour the air to it. It all makes sense but is much more attainable by a small company that hand makes its trumpets compared to one of the mass manufacturers.Valves and slides all work as new with good compression "pop" when valves are pulled against the slides. Valves are fast free and smooth and slides pull easily. There are no dents on this trumpet and the silver finish appears to be completely intact. A real beauty, especially under close inspection. It is a large bore but that is a two sided sword. It takes more air to fill it up but also has less resistance so it takes less effort to get the air from the leadpipe to the bell. Comes with no mouthpiece - he kept his favorite - you should audition several to find your best fit anyway. Also a Protec case in excellent functional condition if a bit used on the outside. I might be inclined to buy a fancy case for a special horn. These do NOT come along very often. In ten years I think I have sold one tuning bell Schilke, this is the first with a Beryllium bell.To buy one new today will cost you $3500, even through the discount houses online. This is a good chance to buy one in similar condition for significantly less money.I will ship well packed to the lower 48 states for $35 and elsewhere for actual cost by US Postal Service. Europe and Japan should expect to pay about $80 for shipping. Australia about $20 more.No Reserve or Buy it Now on this one - Auction will set the price and High Bidder wins it!!!!
