There are subtle differences between the Pre-R13 and the R13 which I will try my best to point out. (Information borrowed from clarinet forums):Pre-R13s stopped production around 1955. Visual attributes: Shared throat post keys. Key guide for top two trill keys is a flat metal with triangular sides as opposed to a barrel with a slot cut through it for the keys. The bridge key on the pre-R13 does not have 'wings' on it like the R13 does. Pre-R13s were made almost entirely by hand.My husband owned an R13 and we each played both of them, but agreed that mine was nicer, even if it was older.
We are no longer playing and this horn deserves to be played.
