If a top artist is not playing a Bach, they at least did so at one point in their career. I grew up on the other side of the fence. I played a Conn 88H and since then, variations by custom makers on the 88H. As I bought and sold trombones over past years, I have had at least a couple dozen come through and my amused deduction was that every one was different. They have all been good horns but they varied a lot and only three were special enough to make me take notice and only one was so special that I would have been happy using it as a main horn. However, it was not as cosmetically pleasing as my current main trombone so that 42 found a delighted new owner. This one tops all the Bachs I have ever touched. It plays every bit as well if not better than the current custom trombone I have been playing for the last eight years. It is only after soul searching that I am choosing to let it go. I still consider myself a "Conn" guy and I guess that is what I will always be.This has the gold brass bell and tuning slide and that certainly makes it more Conn-like than most 42's. You get a warmer richer sound than yellow brass bells. It plays with an easier, more open blow than Conns tend to play so you kind of get the best of both worlds. But what really makes it stand out is resonance and overtones. It is Alive! Most trombones tend to play well either high register or lower register. This one stands out in both ways- big full lower end and easy super high register with clean clear tone. Enough said. This one is one of those special Strads that players are always searching for.This trombone was sold to me by the original adult owner. He is a jazz player and his jazz trombone got all his playing time. This one has sat in the case most of the time for the last ten years or so. It is in beautiful condition, as nice to look at as to play. No dents after one or two small ones were professionally removed and the lacquer finish is completely intact. I had the outer slide tubes relacquered- the original Bach lacquer was starting to fail- a frequent Bach thing.Slide was cleaned and aligned- was OK before - now probably better than when factory let it go. Fast free and smooth. Valve linkage adjusted - works smoothly and quietly.Comes with the Bach case, a bit chipped up but structurally sound. Also with a Yamaha 57 mouthpiece. I measured it as the same size as my Greigo 5 mouthpiece- 26mm inside diameter. You might want to audition mouthpieces to match your playing.Bach 42 Trombones are now selling for more than $3000 new even through the online discount houses and you will get a Bach trombone that is good. This one is very special, more than good, and it should come at a good value.I will ship to the lower 48 states for $60 and elsewhere for actual cost by US Postal service.
