Up for sale, a 1948 Gibson GA50T tube amplifier in absolutely stunning, collector-grade condition and in perfect working order. One of the larger, more impressive amps produced by Gibson in the immediate post-WWII era, the GA50T was designed to cater to Jazz players and excels at extremely lush and detailed clean tones. With the original Jensen P12P alnico 12" driver and corresponding 8" Jensen tweeter, this amp covers a wide tonal spectrum and was also one of the first to employ individual Treble and Bass EQ controls. While the tone of this amp is very hi-fi and dynamic, the cosmetic condition of the amp is simply jaw-dropping. From the minty brown leatherette covering to the glistening powder coated brown chassis, this is easily one of the cleanest surviving GA50T amps in existence. The circuit is very nearly original, aside from a partial recap of the power supply, an added 1/4" jack for the tremolo, and one newer pot. The stock transformers are present, and the circuit retains all of the original paper-in-oil tone capacitors in the preamp. The rare mil-spec red RCA octal preamp tubes are rare and eye-catching in their own right, and the Tung Sol USA made 6L6 power tube pair sound great. The original Jensen speakers are both present with immaculate grayish green speaker baskets and minty foil labels on the magnet bells, with date codes on the edges of the frames from late '48. The silkscreen text on the chassis is mint, all of the original knobs are present, and the photos can't do enough to emphasize the unusually clean condition of this amp. The power cable is the original two-prong design, with a ground wire on its own separate alligator clip (a pioneering idea in the era, and one of the first instances of a cable which could be grounded on a guitar amp). The brown mottled leatherette covering on the cabinet is particularly well cared for and shows barely any wear aside from a few superficial scuffs and a light nick or two on the bottom corners. The material should be familiar to anyone who has a vintage Lifton Les Paul case (same stuff)! The gold metal Gibson logo is completely intact on the face of the amp, as is the original leather handle which shows only light wear.
Don't miss out on this rare chance to own one of the finest Gibson GA50Ts likely to be offered up for sale in the coming years.
