Here is a vintage (serial number 337254) Conn 6D Double French Horn. This instrument was built in Conn's Elkhart factory when the 6D was still being built as a world-class professional double horn. It is in good condition and plays very well. The valves move well with good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of the instrument, there are some small dings and pings and some isolated light pitting and scratching throughout the instrument. The bell has also been replaced at some point, and there are several small patches on the inner wrap. Finally, the trigger has been modified in traditional fashion by having a dime attached to provide greater comfort and increased grip. All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop, and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This instrument comes with a somewhat worn hardshell case and a mouthpiece in good condition.
How the horn plays:  Warm, open, and full sound. Tone is clear and smooth. The horn is responsive and free-blowing. It has a good dynamic range, with a warm, mellow pianissimo and a full, edgy fortissimo. The low and high registers speak well, with the high register being very clear and controlled. The Bb side timbre is slightly brighter than the F side. Very nice playing and sounding horn! It would be excellent for chamber work. All horns are located at Silver & Brass Music Shop710 N.
