Listing is for this newly completed 1962 style Stratocaster from Virgil's Vintage Guitars. The specs: Body ~ 3lb. 12oz. Two piece swamp ash ~ Three tone sunburst in hand mixed nitrocellulose lacquer finish ~ Medium to heavy aging with lacquer checking. Neck ~ Refinished 1980s MIJ Fender Squier neck. ~ Hand mixed vintage tinted Nitrocellulose Lacquer finish with aging. ~ Re-shaped profile with hand made clay dot inlays. ~ Width at nut 1.675" ~ .875" depth at 1st fret ~ .970" " " 12th fret ~ Dual acting truss rod at heel.
Electronics ~ Rocketfire handwound pickups. Very organic and warm. Possibly the most faithful re-creation of 60s pre CBS strat pups available. 5.5K-6K ohm low wind goodness. ~ CTS 250K pots, Oak Grigsby five way switch ~ Custom wired so that one tone pot acts as master tone. The second tone pot rolls in a series wiring option in the two notched positions.
Hardware ~ OEM green '62 spec pickguard. Correct ply, bevel, screw placement and truss rod notch. Even has the obligatory cracked screw hole by the neck pickup! Hand shaped and tinted with nitrocellulose lacquer, for a realistically aged appearance. ~ Remaining hand aged hardware and plastic is made by Fender, with the exception of the Raw Vintage steel saddles, which are an upgrade over Fender's bent steel saddles.
This guitar, as with all that I build, is set up to play like an old friend, right out of the box. Frets have been leveled and polished. The neck has been adjusted to have as little relief as possible, allowing the new owner to adjust the action to their personal preference. This guitar truly has the look, feel and tone of a pre CBS Strat. A bold claim, and one that's used by many, a little too often imo, but one that I have consistently based my reputation on. Guitar building is a labor of love to me.
