Description

Up for auction is a 1956 National Model 1133 Reso-Phonic. These guitars were made by Valco in the 1950's and badged under several brand names or not branded at all. The National 1133's are generally considered the preferred badging. Sometimes referred to as student guitars, 1133's are "3/4 size". Overall length is about 34" with a short scale of 22". This one is very easy playing with Elixir Lights (.010-.047) set up at 4/64" for treble and bass at the twelfth fret. The Model 1133's have a pivot neck adjustment that make it easy to adjust the string height to suit your preference. These guitars are famous for open tuning slide, as demonstrated by the number of great slide players that have owned an 1133. But, in standard tuning with a nice low action this one plays great. It's in very good condition for this vintage with the negatives being some pitting on the front cover, a little on the back, a ding on edge of the lower bout, some scuffing, and some light fret wear. But that's about it, everything else is in excellent original condition. Graphics are 99% intact, beautiful fretboard, amazing condition Kluson tuners, nice red and black finish, and most importantly a great playing little guitar. This is a good travel guitar and for young electric players it provides a easy way to practice without all the electric set up. Comes with a vintage chip board case.
