This historic guitar was once owned by Al Caiola, who played the "Bonanza" TV theme. His letter (pictured) indicates he received it as a gift from the widow of a former student. The serial number indicates it was manufactured in Epiphone's New York plant in 1940. It is in excellent condition, and comes along with its original pick-guard (in great shape) and hard-shell case. The pickup and volume/tone controls work just fine, and the electronics can be accessed through a hatch cover on the back of the guitar. The guitar's finish is in wonderful condition, considering its age, and there are just a couple of dings here and there - some worn finish on the back of the neck and a bb-sized ding on the bottom side of the lower bout. There is a finish crack along the length of the back of the guitar, but the crack does not go through the wood. The guitar appears to be all-original - one of the first electric guitar models, and this model rarely appears on eBay. Lower bout measures 14-1/4" across. This guitar plays easily and sounds fantastic amplified. Action at the 12th fret is 3/16". Own this rare piece of history!Shipping to the contiguous 48 states is $50. I have shipped several guitars throughout the U.S. and pack them extremely well. Please see my other listing for more quality guitars and gear.
