Broadwood Antique Upright Pianoforte With A Stunning Burr Walnut Case C.1866 A beautiful antique John Broadwood and Sons upright pianoforte originally sold by the prestigious London firm in May 1866. Ornate, exquisitely figured, polished burr walnut case, silk backed front panel with intricately carved filigree, solid brass candlestick holders, brass castors and brass toed wooden pedals, turned and faceted front legs, straight strung wooden frame, original 6 3/4 octave keyboard, folding music desk, comes with original key and Broadwood bill of sale dated 1/5/66. A museum-quality example of the English cottage pianoforte by the historic London instrument maker.
History Established in 1728, John Broadwood and Sons is the oldest and one of the most prestigious piano makers of all time. Their instruments have been enjoyed by famous composers and musicians such as Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart and Liszt. Broadwood also holds the Royal Warrant for pianoforte making to Queen Elizabeth II and all predecessors since 1761.
