Condition: "Very Good to Excellent" Overall, the instrument plays as good as it looks. There is slight wear
underneath on right bellows edge where instrument rest while playing (see photo 4). Until these photos were taken,
Wally Carroll was the last person to open it for service and tuning after purchase in 2008. {And would highly
encourage the new owner to do the same}. The instrument has not been played much since 2008, and as a result
the tuning has wavered ever so slightly. Those notes played most often are pretty much dead on, but others outside
the norm have gone sharp by a half-degree to as much as two degrees (one degree being first hash mark past center
on a digital tuner). The response is what you'd expect from an instrument of this quality, but it could be improved
noticeably if you had Wally service it {but playing it now at top speed at an Irish Session is no problem}.
As to sound, it has is a slightly "brighter" sound than his current instruments-- listening to instrument #21 on the
Wally Carroll website is a fair example.
Presently, these instruments new start at $6,000 and have a 2 year waiting list, and they rarely come up for sale.
