These guitars are in my opinion some of the best strats ever made This is in excellent all original condition not mint it has some marks here and there. original case is tatty but does the job. Factory tags and trem arm included. In 1981, as CBS-owned Fender was flailing in the marketplace, with a poor reputation for quality and a network of dealers unhappy about it, Dan Smith was hired from Yamaha to handle marketing and improve quality. The radical plan began by reducing the number of guitars produced at the Fullerton plant from 250-300 per day -- to a 'handful'. As Dan Smith says, they "basically shut the plant down" in order to improve the quality. In 1982, Fender launched their reissue series -- the first vintage reissues of '57 and '62 models. In addition, the 'Standard Stratocaster' was launched -- replacing many of the notable features from the late 60's/70's era Stratocasters. The big headstock, three bolt neck, bullet truss rod adjuster, and massively heavy ash bodies were replaced by a smaller headstock, four-bolt neck, body-end truss rod adjustment screw, and lighter alder body. The flush pole alnico pickups included the hot X-1 bridge pickup, wired with standard three knob and five way selector. Angled jack. Smith Strat's also have 21 frets, just like the original Stratocasters did. The 1987 American Standard introduces the two point bridge and a 22nd fret -- among a few other tweaks.
