A 1923 BACON Banjo Ukulele serial number 8913 from my collection which I have owned for a long time.  It was made in 1923 in the BACON factory which became Bacon & Day the same year in Groton Connecticut USA.  There are matching serial numbers on the perch pole and rim. This fine instrument is in excellent playing condition with a low action and plays Formby style with ease. It is a model No.1,open backed, which is fitted with a new 8 inch remo renaissance head torqued evenly to drum dial 90 with Martin fluorocarbon strings fitted and a newish bridge. It comes in what seems to be its original case which is well worn but ideal for storage.  The original brass squared section flesh hoop is included should you wish to fit a skin head.  It has a 17 nickel silver fret neck with an extended fretboard with a scale length of approximately 14 inches. It has discreet small Martin style marker dots. The neck is straight and true with no discernible fret wear. It has its original tuners which work very well. The chrome hardware is in excellent shiny condition including its original "Grover patent" stamped tailpiece. These early ukuleles are rated top marque instruments with similar status to Gibson and others and are constructed solidly and superbly. It will last forever I'm sure! To be accurate with my description I would point out that on close examination you will see that three of the tension nuts near the tailpiece are very very slightly different and are replacements. These cannot be seen to be different under normal circumstances. The woodwork is excellent with very few minor marks and much less than expected on a 93 year old instrument. These American Banjo Uke's are a rarity especially in Europe and are highly regarded in the vintage guides. This is a very nice example and a credit to its previous owners and its manufacturer Thank you. All questions about this auction will be answered promptly. Please view my other item if you are an instrument aficionado or collector it's superb!
