This is a like-new Fender Mustang "made in Japan" limited edition reissue Bass. I had the original pickup replaced professionally with a Norstrand NM4 custom hand-wound pickup set for richer & deeper tone ($100 + installation). I also had WD make a custom black pearl pick guard (which I never got around to installing), which is included ($100). I also substituted Stratocaster-style knobs, because they are more familiar to me, and a Fender "F" etched back plate. All of the original parts are included - new (see picture). This is a very rare color for a Mustang Bass!! It is near mint condition - no scratches or scrapes. There are a couple of very shallow dimples - they are almost impossible to photograph because of the extremely glossy finish, so I enhanced an enlarged picture of the back at an angle to try to show them (see picture - they are much harder to see live). This Mustang was made in the Fender Japan factory, which crafts top grade instruments - this was one of the last before Fender decided to discontinue production. This bass is very solid (although light and easy on the shoulder). The bridge is string-thru-body so the tone is deep with great sustain. The neck is very smooth and fast, with a sweet, dark rosewood fingerboard. It is strung with new LaBella Deep-Talkin flatwound strings. The short scale (30") neck is a breeze to play. My impression of the new, cheaper Mexican made Mustang PJ basses that I've seen and played, is that the Japanese Mustangs are of higher quality, with better sustain, sound quality and finish. I have developed a severe case of erosive osteo-arthritis of my fingers, which has caused me to not be able to play guitar any longer (after 40+ years), so I thought I might be able to play short scale bass. This hasn't worked out either :( - so this awesome bass is for sale at a big discount (over $1200 invested). These basses are no longer available. Email with any questions. Thanks for looking. |
