Epiphone 1984 Explorer EX The unmistakeable Explorer was acclaimed as ahead of it's time when Gibson first unveiled it in 1958. Since then many have tried to copy it's unique design and sound, but only a guitar designed by the Gibson team can deliver the goods. The Epiphone 1984 Explorer EX captures the magic of this incredible design like no copycat guitar, and with the addition of EMG 81/85 active humbuckers, the Explorer 1984 EX takes this iconic guitar to an entirely new level. Unlike the Korina Explorer, the EX features a solid mahogany body for a light but balanced weight that is perfect for long gigs on stage and long rehersals. The mahogany also gives the EX subtle tonal shades and a biting sustain when played at loud volumes. The mahogany neck is hand glued to the body, which enables the neck and body to function almost as one solid piece of wood. Pickups consist of the famous EMG 81/85 active pickup combination. The EMG-85 features 2 Alnico loaded coils with a wide aperture for a beefy low end and a fat top end. The EMG-81 pickup is designed for lead guitar and excels at high volume overdrive. Controls feature all black hardware with Master Volume and Master Tone which makes blends and volume adjustments easy. The bridge combination is Epiphone's Tune-O-Matic bridge and LockTone tailpiece. Tuners are Grover with metal buttons and Epiphone's own exclusive non-rotating heavy-duty output jack. This is a heavy duty guitar that will stand up to heavy duty playing.
