Up for sale, a 1965 Fender King dreadnought acoustic guitar in excellent, 100% original condition. Fender's top of the line acoustic in '65 (and soon to be renamed the Kingman), the King is X braced and able to deliver a clear, balanced, and cutting tone that lives up to its name. With a solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides, single note lines are both crisp and round sounding, no doubt aided in their clarity by the metal Mustang-esque barrel saddles. The low end has a bit of boom to it, but is fairly restrained overall, and this guitar would be a great secret weapon for studio use where a percussive and even sounding acoustic is needed. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Fender King features 12-53 phosphor bronze strings and low, comfortable action. The neck is simply a joy to play and very intuitive for players familiar with Fender's electric offerings, featuring a medium C shaped profile that has just the right amount of roundness and chunk. The rosewood fretboard features pearl dot inlays and original slender fretwire which is in remarkable shape, showing virtually no wear and playing cleanly up the neck. The truss rod is responsive, the neck is straight, and given the bolt-on nature of the instrument, the action height is ideal. On the headstock, the guitar retains its original (flawless) "King" decal, as well as the original Kluson Deluxe double line tuning machines. The body features a few nice aesthetic touches including checkerboard binding around the edges of the top and the rosette, a gold plexi pickguard, and carved rosewood bridge with individual saddles for each string. The bridge is flush with the top and well secured on all edges. The top also sits very flat with minimal deflection and all of the bracing is solid including the infamous "broomstick" aluminum tube that runs the length of the body. This is a crack-free acoustic guitar, and while there is notable finish checking across the entire body, the instrument is structurally sound and quite clean cosmetically. There are some expected small nicks on the instrument and minor finish scratches on the back, but as the photos show this is a clean and early example of Fender's top of the line acoustic guitar.A vintage hardshell case is included.
