Here is a vintage (serial number 805919) Conn 6D Double French Horn. This instrument is what is known as a "pre-letter" 6D, since there is no letter preceding the serial number. These horns were built in Conn's Elkhart factory, and are considered to be superior to any horns that were built later. It is in very good condition and plays very well. The valves move well with good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of the instrument, there are some small dings and some very light scratching and pitting in isolated areas, particularly the hand guard and bell throat. There is also some evidence of dent removal on the bell section, and one small patch on the inner wrap. All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop, and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This instrument comes with a somewhat worn hardshell case which is fully functional but missing one latch, and a mouthpiece in good condition.
How the horn plays:  Full, warm sound. Light and sweet tone. Good dynamic range. The horn is responsive and fairly free-blowing. The low and high registers speak well. The Bb side is a bit brighter in timbre than the F side. All horns are located at Silver & Brass Music Shop710 N. Curry St. Carson City, NV89703(775) 301-6289
