Up for sale a 1974 Gibson Les Paul Custom in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This Black Beauty is a lovingly played and truly stunning example of this classic model, and this Custom is very original, with a professional refret and new Kluson "Waffleback" tuners being the only notable alterations from stock.  This guitar is everything a great LP Custom should be, with a gloss black nitro finish on the maple top, a pair of original Tarback humbuckers and the power and sustain that only comes with a top of the line Gibson!  Weighing in at 10lbs even, this guitar has all the tonal heft and sustain you expect and balances well on a strap. There's a very dynamic quality to the tone and it responds instantly to changes in pick attack too. It's the commanding and detailed vintage Les Paul sound heard on countless recordings. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Custom has been strung with 11-50 strings and boasts low action. The neck has a medium C profile that borders on the slimmer side of things and grows gradually deeper as you move up the fretboard, filling the palm nicely. The ebony fretboard has pearl block inlays and has been professionally refretted with wire that has plenty of height and crown, and width just shy of a medium jumbo. The new frets are virtually flawless, with only a hint of wear on the crowns beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3, and no wear up the fretboard. The neck is straight, the truss rod is responsive, and the guitar plays flawlessly with no buzzing or dead spots. The nut has been replaced and measures 1 11/16" in width. The headstock sports all the hallmarks of a Les Paul Custom, with the split diamond inlay, "Custom" truss rod cover, mulit-ply headstock binding and a set of reissue Kluson Waffleback gold tuners with tulip buttons. On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with a pair of original Tarback Gibson humbuckers. Three of the CTS pots are original and date to mid-1974, while the fourth pot is a modern replacement. The electronics cavity also has shielding paint and the metal mounting plate and cover for the pots has been removed (redundant now that the cavity is shielded with paint). The original witch hat knobs, pickup covers, patent number ABR-1 bridge, tailpiece, pickguard and Rhythm/Treble switch ring are all present as well.

Cosmetically, this guitar is both a real looker and a great playing instrument. The multi-ply body binding has aged and yellowed framing the gloss top and worn gold hardware. There is notable buckle rash on the back, the most prominent of which is through the nitro lacquer finish and down to the bare mahogany. The guitar has absolutely no breaks or cracks of any kind and is structurally sound. The nitro lacquer finish is 100% stock with no touchups or overspray and other light cosmetic wear includes a few scattered nicks on the body as a whole and light wear on the edges of the headstock. The original hardshell case is included.
