Yamaha has been making the most consistent high quality brass instruments since they were introduced in the US in the 1970's.You will never find a Yamaha trumpet that is anything less than very good.In their early days they copied brands that were market leaders in the US and for trumpets that meant Schilke. If you look up the Schilke X3 you will see the similarities in size and design - (look at the bracing) The 738 is a large bore trumpet, designed to fit very well into both classical and jazz settings. It can project through the loudest big bands yet blend nicely in a section. It will soar into the highest register yet melt a ballad at lower volumes. Large bore is a two edged sword. It does take a bit more air to fill up the horn but it is also easier to get the air through the horn so stamina can actually be increased. When it comes to projecting through and above a large group, large bore is a great aid.More and more top level players are discovering that not only is Yamaha making great trumpets today, that they have been making top trumpets for many years.This one came to me from a local player. I am not sure where or when he got it. It is obvious that it has had very little use over its lifetime- The silver is perfect and it only had a tiny ding on the back bow which I had professionally removed. Otherwise seems to be in original superb shape. The valves are super fast and smooth and make a good compression "pop" when played against the slides. All slides work perfectly. What you see is a trumpet in terrific condition, as nice to look at as it is to play. You will not find a used trumpet in nicer condition than this. Comes with the original case in great shape and a Bach 7C mouthpiece also in good shape- You will want to audition mouthpieces to find your own best fit.Yamaha professional level trumpets now sell new for over $2500. Given the condition of this horn it is your chance to get almost new for a great value.I will ship to the lower 48 states well packed for $35 and elsewhere for actual cost by US Postal service.
