Tel: (316) 684-0291; FAX (316) 684-6858 GOOD BESSON (ENGLAND) FOUR VALVE, FULL COMPENSATING SYSTEM EUPHONIUM Serial number 344,770 dates manufacture to the mid 1960's.Engraved on the bell: "50 Medals of Honour (in a banner) / "B" Besson logo / BESSON / star / London-Paris-New York / Made in England".
Upright bell, four piston valves (three upright and one on the side).
Very attractive original satin silver plate finish is worn no more than about 2%, with bright silver plate inside the bell, on the ferrules, caps, and finger buttons. The mouthpiece receiver accepts a standard large shank (bass trombone) mouthpiece.
A light crease to the bell and small dents and dings have been burnished our by our shop, but the instrument has never been seriously damaged. The valve pistons are not perfect (some slight pitting to the original plating, see photos), but they are in good condition and are tight in the casings.  Valve action is fast and quiet and the euphonium plays very well. This is the instrument that set the standard for euphonium design and quality decades ago.  This one's an original survivor that's clean, never seriously damaged, with good valves, ready to play.  Production in England of these superb euphoniums ended many years ago.  Besson euphoniums made today in Germany are fine (and expensive!) instruments, but they're not really like the original English euphoniums. This one's a best buy at $2,950.
