These David Naill bagpipes were purchased a few years ago from what was believed to be the original owner. I say this because the pipes were purchased as a gift for them early in 1977 from a shop where you could buy new pipes or used pipes. The previous owner received them as a youngster and doesn't remember anymore than they were purchased early in 1977. David Naill opened his shop in 1976 and is known for his amazing craftsmanship in making bagpipes. If you look at the pictures you'll find the mounts to be in amazing shape for being 40 years old. No parts have been changed, they're all original (except for the chanter, no chanter included). The bag is an extended medium Gannaway (over $300 new) that was only used a few times before this set was put into hibernation. I don't play but we purchased it (as a family gift) for my uncle who played many military, police and other funerals. Unfortunately the time has come for him to lay down his pipes for good and pass the torch to another young piper. We decided to put them up for someone else to enjoy, its terrible to see these stored away without being played.I believe you'll be extremely hard pressed to find another set of some of the first pipes crafted by Naill in this shape. Just before my uncle stopped playing events, they were sent to a bagpipe craftsman who did a full maintenance and inspection. At that time (summer 2015) there were no cracks or warps. They've been in the box for some time where the humidity has been kept at a percent as to not let the wood dry out. Its also in a temperature controlled environment. This would make an amazing gift for that professional bagpipe player or even someone starting out who will stick with it. Do your research and you'll see what they about the David Naill brand, especially the earlier crafted sets. The average price of a new set is about $2100. Do your research and you'll find that the new sets dont compare to the old sets. Nothing is quite the same to include the sound! If you look at the top Naill set you're looking about $2500. This, one of his first sets made with the amazing mounts are valued at much, much, more. Thanks for looking and good luck.
