The 3000 square foot shop is "one of a kind" with their incorporation of "tried and true" handcrafted techniques along with the wonderful introduction of technology. The "attention to detail" approach to instrument design and construction has set Kanile`a `Ukulele apart and allowed them to become the industry leader. Quite possibly the finest ukuleles available.There are many unique components to the Kanilea shop. They are the only ukulele manufacturer in Hawai'i that has a completely enclosed assembly area. This enables precise control over the temperature and humidity throughout the whole building process. This "instrument friendly" environment is critical to the stabilization of tone woods, allowing for proper adhesion of glue along with the proper application of their revolutionary finish.Most ukulele purists would say that the best sounding ukulele would have no finish at all. This would allow for the best resonance and projection from your instrument. Although this may be true, the fact is that it is not practical. Any musical instrument when played is always subjected to some form of moisture either through body perspiration, relative humidity in the air or an accidentally beverage spill. Which ever the case, an instrument needs some form of protection - Kanilea's satin finish provides just that. They utilize a traditional application of a Wiping varnish that provides a strong, thin surface finish with a pleasing satin texture. This thin satin finish allows for vibration and elasticity of their well seasoned tone woods, resulting in a ukulele that has greater projection, volume, sustain and resonance, yet provides the protection that is needed to allow their ukulele's to be Kanilea.
