This is a vintage (serial number 455255) King model 1160 Double French Horn. This instrument is in good condition and plays very well. The valves move very well with good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of the instrument, there are some small dings and pings and some scratching and pitting throughout the instrument, particularly inside the bell. There are also a few braces which have been replaced, and the pinky ring is made from yellow brass. The leadpipe is made from yellow brass as well, which gives this horn a slightly warmer sound than the standard leadpipe. All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. The engraving on the bell reads "KING/ KING MUSICAL/ INSTRUMENTS/ EASLAKE/ OHIO". This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. This horn has had the old lacquer removed to improve its tone, as well as for aesthetics. Therefore this horn is finished in pure brass, and fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina.  This instrument comes with a worn hardshell case and a mouthpiece in good condition.
How the horn plays:  Full, bright and brash sound. The horn has a decent dynamic range. The low and high registers speak well, with a full low register. The Bb side timbre is a bit brighter than the F side. The horn is very edgy and snappy and would be excellent for a “brass band” sound.
