Gibson S-1 1978 Mahogany ALL ORIGINAL   This is a rare ALL ORIGINAL 1978 Gibson S-1 electric guitar. There were only about 3,000 of these guitars made between 1975 and 1980, and few of them survive that are all original, unmodified examples like this guitar. The pickups are the original Bill Lawrence-designed single coils, and the wiring diagram is the much improved 2nd version (produced after 1977) that allows you to select (with the chicken head knob) neck only, center and bridge together in humbucking mode, all 3 pickups (very rare in any guitar) or neck and bridge out of phase for a great funk sound. Maple fretboard in good condition, and nice "fretless wonder" frets in good condition with plenty of life left.  All frets ring out well, no fretting out or choking. Neck is straight and action is nice and low. Plays great. The pots are also original and the 2 way original "passing lane" switch works perfectly--in the up position the chicken head setting is activated, but in the down position (e.g., for solos), it bypasses this to go to bridge only. You can get a TON of sounds from this--humbucking tones, Strat-like quack, and the very unique "all 3" pickup (FCB) setting, which is unlike any tone I've heard on any other guitar-would be nice for jazz or blues.  The guitar is in very good shape cosmetically. The bolt-on 3 piece maple neck is smooth and glossy, some finish checking near the volute. No breaks, no repairs, nothing. Original pick guard, knobs, switches, pickups, bridge (harmonica style), and Gibson stamped tuners are all in good condition. Mahogany body has some small dings on the front (I tried to show some in pics) but really not much for a guitar that is over 35 years old. Please note that it is, of course, used, and does have its share of dings on the body, but very few on the neck and few overall. Stays in tune, sounds great and play smooth. Comes with the original hard shell case, which is also in poor condition, one latches work, handle is great. Comes with the owner's manual really rare
