Offered at no reserve is an all original 1977 Gretsch Chet Atkins Model 7681 solid body, ebony finished Super Axe with the original hard shell Brooklyn case. I am the second owner and the guitar was purchased it in 2008 from the original owner, a Nashville musician and former Gruhn Guitars staff member. The guitar’s overall condition is excellent. Throughout its life it has been professionally serviced and maintained, both by the previous owner and by yours truly. The Atkins Super Axe was introduced in 1976 and featured precision Schaller tuners, a hand-friendly pointed single cutaway (sometimes also referred to as a Florentine cutaway), dual humbucking pickups, an upper bass bout pickup selector switch, and master volume and tone controls, along with on-board electronics including on-the-fly compressor, sustain and phaser blend effects. All electronics and controls on the guitar were recently tested and are in perfect working as designed, and the tonal qualities of the instrument are still remarkably clean and distinctively “Gretsch”. 9-volt battery required to activate the special effects board.The guitar has been routinely but somewhat sparingly played in its lifetime and the ebony fretboard has held up exceptionally well with no discernible pitting or gouging. Some minor fret wear but no impact on playability. The neck is straight and clean, easy to navigate, and the action is quick and true. A real treat to play. No structural damage or deterioration to the finish. The headstock is solid, and the neck-to-body joint is superb. The body finish front and back is in excellent condition with only a few small nicks here and there, and some on the rear truss rod access plate. All hardware is in exceptionally fine condition. The original hardshell case itself is also in excellent plus condition with security latches all around – all in good working order but tarnished with age. The plush interior is deep blue with no flaws.Also included in the auction are a heavy duty black nylon mesh guitar strap, Snark tuner, Kyser capo, and a set of GHS light gauge roundwound Boomer electric guitar strings (.010 - .046).
