We are parting with an immaculate and unique example of an early production (#227) diatonic flute by Abel Siccama, built in London by master flutemaker John Hudson in the late 1840's. The flute has a tuning slide and plays comfortably at A=440. The headjoint is silver lined. It has been fully restored by master flute tech and designer Ton Kooiman. You will rarely see such an immaculate example of such an old instrument. Indeed, it looks like it has just left the factory. There is not a mark or crack anywhere on the instrument and the mechanics are in similar order. It plays with a gorgeous, bold tone, especially beloved of Celtic players, but equally suited to period instrument players of classical music. The closest comparison would be to Rudall and Rose flutes of the time. Siccama flutes of such remarkable quality are rarely found for sale. This flute is currently residing in Amsterdam with its owner, who plays with the Dutch Bach Society (De Nederlandse Bachvereniging) and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, among others, while also completing her post-graduate studies. The flute is only being sold due the very specific focus of the owner and the need for her to commission new baroque instruments at this time. Letting it go is a matter of great regret. The instrument is priced very fairly and will be shipped worldwide. Final shipping costs will be determined according to preferred method of shipping and location following close of sale. The shipping cost listed is NOT the actual cost. Please contact me if you wish for specific shipping prices prior to purchase. Please also feel free to contact me for further details or questions.Best wishes and thank you for your interest.
