Detailed description This hand-carved Blueberry Dreadnought guitar has an Alaskan Spruce top with hundreds of hand carved grooves on the surface that greatly enhance the volume, resonance, projection and sustain. The back and sides are Balinese Rosewood and the neck is a combination of Rosewood and Mahogany. The inlay on the fretboard is Balinese White Angel wood and the carving on the headstock is Balinese White Angel wood that was stained and inlayed into the Macassar ebony headstock. The fretboard is also Macassar ebony. The nut and saddle are made of bone and there is an adjustable double action truss rod that uses a 5/32 Allen key.
Blueberry Groove guitars have hundreds of hand-carved grooves in carefully selected acoustic panels on the top wood, creating a resonance never before heard or felt on an acoustic guitar. Due to these hand carved grooves, the whole guitar comes alive when it is played and the resonance and projection are greatly enhanced. In addition, the carved grooves on the top make most if not all scuff marks impossible to see. They also make for an exquisite texture on the surface of the guitar body.
The tops of most guitars are made of either Spruce or Cedar. These are very soft woods and are almost impossible to carve into. Until recently, Blueberry guitars focused on carving on the backs, sides and headstocks. After more than two years of experimentation with different chisels and carving methods, our woodcarvers have developed the skill to carve onto the tops without damaging the structural integrity of the wood. All Blueberry Guitars are made with solid woods of standard wood thicknesses - we do not use thicker woods to adjust for the carvings. It is the unique skill of the Balinese woodcarvers and their specialized chisels that allow them to carve intricate details onto very soft thin woods. One of the secrets to the sweet and clear Blueberry sound is the effect of the increased resonation caused by the contoured carved grooves on the guitar body. This is a unique signature feature exclusive to Blueberry Guitars.
This guitar is equipped with a LR Baggs iBeam Active system which reproduces its natural tone while maintaining perfect string balance and providing full dynamic range. The iBeam is microphonic enough to hear the rich texture of finger squeak and top tapping, but is resistant to feedback and gives you excellent amplified sound without a hint of piezo quack. The Dreadnought is our largest, deepest instrument, just right for the flat-picking singer/songwriter, or bluegrass musician. Powerful, with a sonorous, crisp bass and clear, ringing trebles, it matches the intensity of the banjo and fiddle player, and its dynamic range perfectly complements vocal accompaniment.
Most large, deep guitars tend to muddy the sound, at the expense of clear bass notes, and a clear definition overall. We think you will find that this is not the case with the Blueberry dreadnought. Notes are powerful but clear, with crispness throughout the tonal range, and balance across the board.

The best quality woods have been sourced throughout the world to be used at our workshops. They have each been selected for their beauty and exceptional quality towards the final sound. The thin, hard finish that we use, very similar to French polish, but without the danger of softening or alcohol damage, never dampens the sound with too much weight. It won't crack, peel or chip and is especially wear resistant.
Playability is a major consideration when designing each guitar. All Blueberry fretboards are wood bound so the feel of the neck is always smooth and free of sharp frets. In addition, hardwood laminates stiffen the neck, adding to the instrument's ability to hold its tune.

About us Blueberry Guitars is the inspiration of Montreal businessman and musician Danny Fonfeder who conceived the idea of marrying outstanding craftsmanship to extraordinary art. American luthier and educator, George Morris, and Balinese woodcarver, Wayan Tuges, brought together two great craft traditions, combining the best of Western technology with the best woodcarvers in the world. Each guitar is handmade and unique in detail and materials. Each is a work of art worthy of the finest musicians. A special group of craftsmen add their exceptional skills to every guitar before it is tested and judged ready to be called a Blueberry Instrument. Blueberry Guitars embody a marriage of East and West. They celebrate the joining of mind and spirit, functionality and artful reverence. No two are alike. All meet the exacting standards demanded by great musicianship and art connoisseurs and can satisfy even those who demand perfection.
This guitar was delicately handmade under the supervision and guidance of Master Balinese Luthier and Wood Carver Wayan Tuges. It has gone through a rigorous series of quality control checks before it was given a serial number and offered for sale. The sound of each Blueberry guitar is unique and our guitars are known to produce extraordinary volume and clarity while also being incredibly light and very easy to play. All Blueberry guitars are handmade and carved on the Island of Bali, home to the most gifted woodcarving artists in the world, whose traditions go back thousands of years. Once a guitar is completed, it is sent to Montreal where tuners are added and final setup, inspections and adjustments are made. It takes over 60 days to produce each guitar. The fingerprint of the Master Wood Carver on the inside label certifies its authenticity.
Recent recording artists playing Blueberry guitars include Nashville session players Dino Bradley (of the Hank Williams Junior's band), Susanna Barrette, Josh Finlayson, country music star Charlotte Medley, Universal artist and 2 time Juno award winner George Canyon and also best selling Canadian artists Paul Deslaurier and Rob Lutes.
Blueberry guitars are instruments of delicate precision. Because they are not mass-produced, they can afford to be finely braced for optimal performance. They are therefore noticeably richer in harmony, greater in sensitivity, more dynamic in range and possess superior sounds.
