This is a vintage Concerto double french horn. This instrument was imported from Germany, and plays very well. The valves move well with excellent compression and the slides all move of course--the mechanical linkage finger buttons move smoothly and quietly. As for the aesthetic condition of this horn, there are some small dings and pings, as well as some pitting and scratching throughout the horn. There are also a few discolored spots on the horn, some etched scars on the bell, and one small patch on the inner wrap. All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. The engraving on the horn reads "CONCERTO/ Bd.of Ed. NYC/ 1960". The leadpipe to bell tail brace has “MADE IN GERMANY” stamped on it. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop, and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wipes off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This instrument comes with a somewhat worn hardshell case and a mouthpiece in good condition.How the horn plays: Very full, big, and round sound. The tone is warm and colorful. The horn has is was very responsive and free-blowing. The F and Bb side timbres match well once the horn is intonated (the F side tuning slide needs to be pulled out for the two sides to be in tune.) The low and high registers speak very well. The horn has an excellent dynamic range and is excellent to play. It is light, quick, and full without being harsh or blatty. This is a great old German horn.
