This is a 1969 (serial number 254970) Reynolds Contempora Double French Horn. This instrument was originally built as a direct rival to the Elkhart Conn 8Ds of the time, and it plays very well. These horns play similarly to Conn 8Ds since they are both Kruspe wrap instruments, though the Reynolds has a slightly different tone and responsiveness. The valves move well with excellent compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of this horn, there are a few small dings and pings, as well as scratching and etching throughout the instrument (particularly the bell flare). The bell flair also has a very small brazed repair near the min bell brace. All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. The engraving on the horn reads R/ REYNOLDS/ CONTEMPORA/ ABILENE, TEXAS/ FE-01. There is also a small engraving near the bell rim which reads "OPSE-OPW-VO". This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop, and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This instrument comes with a somewhat worn hardshell case and a mouthpiece in good condition.
